Treatment
Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery including upper lid blepharoplasty for drooping eyelids and chalazion (cyst) removal, performed by Miss Tina Khanam in London.
Overview
Understanding the Procedure
Miss Tina Khanam performs a range of eyelid procedures to address both functional and cosmetic concerns. As an ophthalmic surgeon, she brings specialist knowledge of the delicate structures around the eye.
Upper lid blepharoplasty removes excess skin from the upper eyelids that can cause a heavy, tired appearance or, in more severe cases, obstruct the upper visual field. The procedure creates a natural, refreshed appearance while preserving the character of your eyes.
Chalazion (meibomian cyst) removal is a minor procedure to drain or excise a blocked oil gland in the eyelid that has formed a persistent lump. While many chalazia resolve with warm compresses and lid hygiene, some require surgical incision and curettage.
Both procedures are performed as day cases under local anaesthetic, allowing you to return home the same day.

Our Approach
Consultant-Led Care
Miss Khanam assesses each patient individually, taking into account the functional impact on vision, cosmetic goals, and overall eye health. For blepharoplasty, she takes careful measurements to ensure the right amount of skin is removed — enough to improve appearance and function without over-correction.
Suitability

- Upper eyelid skin drooping into the line of sight (functional blepharoplasty)

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
The incision is made in the natural crease of the upper eyelid, so any scar is hidden and becomes virtually invisible once healed (typically within 2-3 months).
While the specific cyst is permanently removed, new chalazia can develop in other glands. If you are prone to recurrent chalazia, Miss Khanam may recommend ongoing lid hygiene and warm compress routines.
If the excess skin is obstructing your visual field (functional blepharoplasty), it may be covered by private medical insurance. Purely cosmetic blepharoplasty is typically self-funded.
The results of upper lid blepharoplasty typically last 7-10 years or more, as the excess skin does not return quickly.
