ICL - Implantable Contact Lens
EVO ICL for high prescriptions — a reversible, maintenance-free alternative to laser eye surgery with built-in UV protection.
Overview
Understanding the Procedure
The Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL), also known as the EVO ICL, is a premium vision correction option for patients with high or very high prescriptions who may not be suitable for laser eye surgery. Unlike LASIK, the ICL is placed inside the eye — behind the iris and in front of the natural lens — without removing any corneal tissue.
The EVO ICL is made from Collamer, a biocompatible material that works in harmony with the eye's natural chemistry. It provides built-in UV protection, does not cause dry eye (as no corneal tissue is removed), and is completely maintenance-free — unlike contact lenses, there is nothing to clean, insert, or remove.
One of the most significant advantages of ICL surgery is its reversibility. The lens can be removed or exchanged if your prescription changes significantly in the future, or if new technology becomes available. This makes it a particularly appealing option for younger patients.
Miss Tina Khanam has expertise in ICL implantation, with meticulous sizing and positioning to ensure optimal visual outcomes. The procedure takes 15–20 minutes per eye and is performed under local anaesthetic drops. Most patients notice dramatically improved vision immediately.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
ICL is additive (a lens is placed inside the eye) rather than subtractive (removing corneal tissue). This makes it ideal for high prescriptions, thin corneas, and patients prone to dry eye. ICL is also reversible, whereas laser reshaping is permanent.
Yes, the ICL can be removed or replaced through a straightforward procedure. This is one of its key advantages — if your needs change or new technology emerges, the lens can be exchanged. However, most patients are delighted with their results and never need removal.
The ICL is designed to remain in the eye indefinitely. It is made from Collamer, a biocompatible material that does not degrade. Regular check-ups are recommended to monitor the lens and overall eye health.
The EVO ICL can correct myopia from -0.50 to -18.00 dioptres and astigmatism up to 6.00 dioptres with the Toric model. This makes it suitable for much higher prescriptions than laser eye surgery.
No. Because no corneal tissue is removed during ICL surgery, the corneal nerves that regulate tear production are left intact. Patients who suffer from dry eyes with contact lenses often find ICL an excellent alternative.
