Treatment
CAIRS – Allogenic Corneal Rings (KeraNatural)
CAIRS uses sterilised human donor corneal rings (KeraNatural), implanted with a femtosecond laser, to reshape the cornea and improve vision in keratoconus — a minimally invasive, tissue-friendly alternative to corneal transplant.
Recovery
Your Recovery Journey
Most patients return to normal daily activities within a day or two of CAIRS, though some discomfort and light sensitivity are common at first. It is important to be prepared that vision recovers gradually — over a number of weeks or longer.

Some discomfort and sensitivity to light; most patients return to normal daily activities
- Use the prescribed anti-inflammatory (steroid) drops
- Avoid rubbing the eye
Week 1
It is advisable to take about a week off work; vision still settling
- Avoid eye rubbing and dusty or dirty environments
Weeks to months
Vision gradually recovers; soft contact lenses can be resumed as normal once settled
- A gas-permeable or hard lens may need ~1 month before comfortable wear
- Involve your contact lens practitioner before resuming lens wear
