FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
ICL surgery involves placing a lens inside the eye, which naturally raises many questions. Below are the questions our ICL patients most frequently ask.
Miss Khanam encourages questions and will take all the time you need during your consultation.
ICL is additive (a lens is placed inside the eye) rather than subtractive (removing corneal tissue). This makes it ideal for high prescriptions, thin corneas, and patients prone to dry eye. ICL is also reversible, whereas laser reshaping is permanent.
Yes, the ICL can be removed or replaced through a straightforward procedure. This is one of its key advantages — if your needs change or new technology emerges, the lens can be exchanged. However, most patients are delighted with their results and never need removal.
The ICL is designed to remain in the eye indefinitely. It is made from Collamer, a biocompatible material that does not degrade. Regular check-ups are recommended to monitor the lens and overall eye health.
The EVO ICL can correct myopia from -0.50 to -18.00 dioptres and astigmatism up to 6.00 dioptres with the Toric model. This makes it suitable for much higher prescriptions than laser eye surgery.
No. Because no corneal tissue is removed during ICL surgery, the corneal nerves that regulate tear production are left intact. Patients who suffer from dry eyes with contact lenses often find ICL an excellent alternative.
