Treatment
Laser Eye Surgery
Advanced surface laser treatments including PRK and LASEK. Ideal for patients with thinner corneas or those unsuitable for LASIK, offering excellent visual outcomes.
Am I Suitable?
Suitability Criteria
Surface laser treatment is an excellent option for patients who may not be suitable for LASIK. Miss Khanam will recommend PRK or LASEK when it offers the safest path to clear vision based on your individual eye assessment.
Many patients who have been told they are "not suitable for laser eye surgery" are actually excellent candidates for surface treatment. A thorough assessment is essential.
Ideal Candidates
- Thinner corneas
If your corneas are too thin for safe LASIK flap creation, PRK achieves the same result without a flap.
- Active or physical occupations
Military personnel, athletes, and those in contact sports benefit from the absence of a corneal flap.
- Mild to moderate prescriptions
Myopia up to -8.00, hyperopia up to +3.00, and astigmatism up to 4.00 dioptres.
- Previous corneal scars or irregularities
Surface treatment can be tailored to treat irregular corneal surfaces that may not suit LASIK.
- Adults with stable prescriptions
Aged 18+ with no significant prescription change in the past 12 months.
Contraindications
- Keratoconus or suspected ectasia
All corneal laser procedures are contraindicated in keratoconus.
- Active eye infection or inflammation
Any active ocular condition must be treated and resolved before considering surgery.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
Hormonal changes can temporarily affect your prescription. Surgery should be deferred.
- Uncontrolled autoimmune disease
Conditions that impair healing may increase the risk of complications.
- Unrealistic expectations
Miss Khanam will ensure you have a clear understanding of achievable outcomes before proceeding.
Assessment
How We Assess Your Suitability
Your suitability assessment includes corneal topography, pachymetry (thickness measurement), tear film analysis, detailed refraction, and examination of your overall eye health. Miss Khanam performs every assessment personally.
The assessment takes approximately 45-60 minutes. Please attend without contact lenses — soft lenses for at least 3 days prior, rigid or gas-permeable lenses for at least 2 weeks.
If surface treatment is not suitable, Miss Khanam will discuss alternative options such as ICL (implantable contact lens) surgery.
