Recovery
Your Recovery Journey
Recovery from lens replacement surgery follows the same timeline as cataract surgery. Most patients notice significantly improved vision within 24-48 hours and can return to normal activities within a week.
If you choose multifocal or EDOF lenses, be aware that full visual adaptation may take a few weeks as your brain adjusts to the new way of focusing.
Day of surgery
The procedure takes 15-20 minutes per eye. You will rest briefly then go home wearing a protective eye shield. Vision may be blurry initially.
- No driving
- Wear protective eye shield
- Begin prescribed drops immediately
1 day after
Post-operative check. Vision is usually dramatically improved. Most patients can read and use their phone comfortably.
- Wear eye shield when sleeping for 1 week
- Avoid heavy lifting
1-2 weeks
Return to most daily activities. Vision continues to improve and settle, particularly with multifocal lenses.
- No swimming
- No eye makeup
2-6 weeks
Resume driving, moderate exercise, and normal work. Neuroadaptation to multifocal lenses progresses.
- Continue prescribed drops
6 weeks to 3 months
Full visual adaptation with multifocal lenses. Final follow-up and new glasses prescription if needed. Second eye surgery typically 1-2 weeks after the first.
Aftercare
Aftercare Instructions
You will use antibiotic drops for 2 weeks and anti-inflammatory drops tapered over 4-6 weeks. Follow the schedule precisely. Preservative-free lubricating drops should be used regularly.
Avoid getting water in the eye for the first week. Do not rub or press on the eye. Wear the shield at night for the first week.
With multifocal or EDOF lenses, you may notice that near and intermediate vision takes a few weeks to "click" as your brain adapts. This is completely normal — be patient with the process.
