Am I Suitable?
Suitability Criteria
Lens replacement surgery is an excellent option for patients over 40 who want to correct their vision without relying on glasses or contact lenses. It is particularly effective for those with presbyopia, high prescriptions, or early lens changes.
Miss Khanam will perform a thorough assessment to determine whether lens replacement is the most appropriate option for your age, prescription, and visual goals.
Ideal Candidates
- Adults over 45 with presbyopia
If reading glasses are becoming a constant companion, multifocal lens replacement can restore a full range of vision.
- High prescriptions unsuitable for laser surgery
Myopia beyond -10.00 or hyperopia beyond +4.00 may be better corrected with lens replacement than laser.
- Early lens changes (pre-cataract)
If your optician has noted early lens changes, proactive lens replacement treats the problem before cataracts develop.
- Those wanting permanent glasses freedom
Unlike laser surgery, lens replacement provides a permanent solution that also prevents future cataracts.
- Patients frustrated with varifocals
Many patients find varifocals difficult to tolerate. Multifocal lens replacement offers a natural alternative.
Contraindications
- Age under 45 (generally)
Younger patients with clear natural lenses are usually better served by laser eye surgery or ICL.
- Significant retinal disease
Macular degeneration or other retinal conditions may limit the visual benefit of premium lenses.
- Active eye infection or inflammation
Must be treated and resolved before elective surgery.
- Very high expectations with multifocal lenses
Multifocal lenses involve trade-offs. Miss Khanam will ensure your expectations are realistic before proceeding.
Assessment
How We Assess Your Suitability
A comprehensive assessment including detailed biometry, corneal topography, OCT retinal imaging, and a thorough discussion of your visual needs and lifestyle. Miss Khanam will measure your dominant eye and assess your pupil response in different lighting.
This information is essential for selecting the right lens type and power. The assessment takes approximately 60 minutes.
Miss Khanam will clearly explain whether lens replacement, laser surgery, or ICL is the best option for your specific eyes. She will never recommend lens replacement when a simpler procedure would achieve the same result.
