Risks & Safety
Understanding the Risks
LASIK is one of the most extensively studied elective procedures in medicine, with a safety profile supported by over 30 years of clinical evidence. Serious complications are rare, and the vast majority of patients achieve excellent visual outcomes.
Miss Khanam believes in complete transparency. She will discuss all potential risks during your consultation so you can make a fully informed decision. Understanding the risks is an important part of the consent process — not a reason for alarm.
Dry eyes
Mitigation: Temporary dryness is normal for 1-3 months post-operatively and is managed with lubricating drops. Long-term dry eye is uncommon.
Glare and halos around lights
Mitigation: Most common in the first few weeks and typically resolves as the cornea heals. Wavefront-guided treatment can reduce this risk.
Under-correction or over-correction
Mitigation: A small residual prescription may remain. Enhancement surgery can be performed after 3 months if needed.
Flap complications
Mitigation: Bladeless femtosecond laser flap creation has significantly reduced this risk compared to older microkeratome techniques.
Infection (keratitis)
Mitigation: Risk is approximately 1 in 5,000. Strict sterile technique and post-operative antibiotic drops minimise this risk.
Corneal ectasia
Mitigation: Thorough pre-operative screening including corneal topography and pachymetry identifies at-risk patients before treatment.

Complications & What to Expect
The overall complication rate for LASIK is very low. Published studies report that over 96% of patients are satisfied with their results, making it one of the highest satisfaction rates of any elective procedure.
Miss Khanam's approach to minimising risk includes meticulous patient selection, advanced pre-operative diagnostics, bladeless femtosecond laser technology, and close post-operative monitoring. She will not proceed with LASIK if your assessment reveals any factors that could compromise safety or outcomes.
If you experience any concerns following your procedure, Miss Khanam is available for direct contact — you will never be left without support during your recovery.
