Treatment
LASIK Surgery
Bladeless LASIK using femtosecond laser technology. Corrects myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism with rapid visual recovery — most patients see clearly within 24 hours.
Am I Suitable?
Suitability Criteria
Not everyone is suitable for LASIK, and that is perfectly fine. Miss Khanam's thorough pre-operative assessment ensures that LASIK is only recommended when it is genuinely the best option for your eyes.
If LASIK is not suitable for you, Miss Khanam will explain why and discuss alternative treatments that may achieve similar results, such as PRK, ICL, or lens replacement surgery.
Ideal Candidates
- Adults aged 18 or over
Your eyes should be fully mature before undergoing refractive surgery.
- Stable prescription for at least 12 months
A changing prescription suggests the eye is still developing, which could affect long-term results.
- Myopia up to -10.00 dioptres
LASIK is highly effective for mild to moderate short-sightedness. Higher prescriptions may be better suited to ICL.
- Hyperopia up to +4.00 dioptres
Long-sightedness can be effectively corrected within this range.
- Astigmatism up to 5.00 dioptres
Modern LASIK platforms can precisely correct astigmatism alongside myopia or hyperopia.
- Sufficient corneal thickness
A minimum corneal thickness is required to safely create the flap and reshape the tissue. This is measured during your assessment.
Contraindications
- Keratoconus or corneal ectasia
LASIK can worsen these conditions. Corneal topography screening identifies patients at risk.
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
Hormonal changes can temporarily alter your prescription. Treatment should be deferred until hormones stabilise.
- Severe dry eye disease
Active severe dry eye should be treated and stabilised before considering LASIK.
- Autoimmune conditions
Conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus may affect corneal healing.
- Thin corneas
If corneal thickness is insufficient, PRK or ICL may be a safer alternative.
- Unstable prescription
A prescription that has changed in the past 12 months should be allowed to stabilise first.
Assessment
How We Assess Your Suitability
Your suitability assessment with Miss Khanam is comprehensive and unhurried. It includes corneal topography and tomography to map the shape and thickness of your cornea, wavefront aberrometry to analyse how light travels through your eye, tear film assessment, pupil size measurement in different lighting conditions, and a thorough examination of your overall eye health.
This detailed evaluation takes approximately 45-60 minutes and is the foundation of a safe, predictable outcome. Miss Khanam will explain every finding and what it means for your treatment options.
Please remove contact lenses before your assessment — soft lenses for at least 3 days, and rigid or gas-permeable lenses for at least 2 weeks. This allows your cornea to return to its natural shape for accurate measurements.
