Recovery

Your Recovery Journey

Cataract surgery recovery is typically quick and straightforward. Most patients notice a significant improvement in vision within 24-48 hours and can return to most daily activities within a few days.

Miss Khanam provides clear aftercare instructions and sees you for follow-up to ensure your recovery is progressing well.

Day of surgery

The procedure takes 15-20 minutes. You will rest briefly, then go home with an eye shield. Vision may be blurry initially but begins to clear within hours.

  • No driving — arrange a lift home
  • Wear protective eye shield
  • Begin prescribed drops as directed

1 day after

Post-operative check with Miss Khanam. Most patients notice dramatically clearer vision. The eye shield can be removed during the day.

  • Wear eye shield when sleeping for 1 week
  • Avoid bending forward or heavy lifting

1-2 weeks

Vision continues to improve and settle. You can return to most daily activities including light exercise, cooking, and gentle walks.

  • No swimming or hot tubs
  • No eye makeup
  • Avoid dusty or smoky environments

2-6 weeks

The eye is healing well. You can resume driving once your vision meets the DVLA standard. Most activities including moderate exercise can be resumed.

  • Continue prescribed drops until advised to stop

6 weeks

Final routine follow-up. Vision should be stable. A new glasses prescription can be issued if needed. Second eye surgery can be scheduled.

Aftercare

Aftercare Instructions

After cataract surgery, you will use antibiotic drops (typically for 2 weeks) and anti-inflammatory steroid drops (tapered over 4-6 weeks). Follow the drop schedule provided carefully.

Avoid getting water directly in the operated eye for the first week. When showering, let water run down from the back of your head rather than directly over your face.

Do not rub or press on your eye. Wear the protective shield when sleeping for the first week. Avoid heavy lifting, straining, and vigorous exercise for 2 weeks.

Attend all follow-up appointments. If you experience sudden pain, significant vision loss, increasing redness, or new floaters between appointments, contact Miss Khanam immediately.
